During the initial first few weeks of recovery, a person’s needs are likely to be different than later on. The specific services required by a person’s addiction depend on what stage of the recovery journey they are on. Tufts Health Plan covers a wide range of addiction treatment services. Tufts Health Plan and Substance Addiction Treatment Services Tufts Health Plan will generally arrange for clients to be evaluated by an approved physician who can make a diagnosis and recommend a course of treatment. If you suspect you suffer from a drug or alcohol addiction but have not received an official diagnosis, that is okay. Addictions covered by Tufts Health Plan include but are not limited to: Substance use disorders are generally diagnosed based on two conditions: 1) a person has experienced negative consequences as a result of their substance abuse, and 2) they find it difficult if not impossible to stop abusing drugs or alcohol. If a physician has diagnosed them with a substance use disorder, they are eligible for covered addiction treatment. It does not matter what a person’s drug or substance of choice was. Tufts Health Plan covers all diagnosed substance use disorders. This means that all plans with Tufts Health Plan include strong coverage for substance use disorder treatment and mental health disorder treatment.
